Chelan defeats arch rivals in three sets to go 5-0 in league

The lead up to last night’s volleyball match with the Cascade Kodiaks was more intense then the match itself. Chelan ended up with a three-way sweep with the Lady Goats varsity team posting a three game win over the Kodiaks 25-13, 25-19, 25-21.

“We had some big defensive plays that included great blocking and digging as well as some effective serving that forced Cascade out of system,” said Coach Donene Hendricks. “I am so proud of the intensity and focus the girls brought to the court tonight. They really wanted to win and it showed.”

At this point in the season, Cascade is the only team that has even challenged Chelan on the court. A lot of credit has to be given to Cascade for not giving up despite losing its first two games to Chelan. In the third set, they jumped out to a lead initially, but Chelan pounded back with really excellent play at the net and in the back court.

Jaicee Harris pounded in 17 kills to lead the Goats to the win. Somewhere in the stands, she was being watched closely by a WSU scout. Even though Harris committed to Boston, she has indicated that she would be much more comfortable going to school closer to home.

Darcy Austin added 5 kills while Abby Phelps was 19/19 at the service line and had 15 assists. Olivia Plew had 10 assists and was 10/11 at the service line. Cari Williams had 2 blocks and 2 kills from the right side of the court.

There was a very nice crowd on hand to watch these two fine teams play. “We are very appreciative of the wonderful support that we had from the student body, parents and community,” said Hendricks. “This win puts our league record at 5-0.”

The Lady Goats next appearance on a court will be in Cashmere on Saturday, October 9, with play beginning at 6:30 p.m.
