We picked a bad night to not play very well and Bridgeport really took advantage of that for the first three and a half quarters until we woke up and decided to play basketball. Unfortunately, it was just too late and we had to take too many chances which led to some easy buckets for them late in the game. I was extremely proud of the way the girls battled back in the fourth quarter! We were down by nineteen at the end of the third quarter and came back to cut the lead to five with a little over two minutes to go, but having to use so much energy to come back really hurt us, as the girls wore themselves out working so hard in the fourth quarter. Now we know what we can do if we were to play that way for a full four quarters. We plan on trying a few different things during the next two practices while we get ready for pateros and we will see what happens Friday. Hopefully I will do a much better job getting the girls ready to play Friday, it's fair to say the girls worked hard and tried their best to win, the spark just wasn't there early for us and that's my fault. The two main reasons we struggled tonight were because we didn't shoot very well (many open shots though) and we really forgot to block out. We shot 13-67 from the field and 6-14 from the line. At the defensive end Garza and Bucio really hurt us with offensive rebounds; which really stinks because we actually played very good man-to-man defense and forced them into a lot of bad shots, but then they got too many second and third chances. Cheyanne McFadden played almost the whole game again; she has worked hard lately to cut down on her turnovers and it really showed tonight. It's great to see a player single out a weakness and make it better. Lia Verduzco did exactly what she was asked to do tonight offensively and it turned into four points and two rebounds for her. Ofelia Rodriguez returned from her trip to Oregon and played a great game on defense absolutely shutting down their point guard's dribble drive. Sierra Miller played well defensively in the post again against much bigger players, she NEVER backs down to anyone. Jaqueline Guillen had a tough time offensively, but she made up for it with great help defense creating four steals for herself. Hailey Ellsworth also struggled shooting, but once again she found ways to help the team as a distributor on offense, rebounder on defense and a lock down defender with four steals. Thalia Lepley came back from vacation to grab two rebounds, she has a great shot and we hope she starts to look to shoot more often. Abby Bridgewater had yet another double-double to lead us in both points and rebounds with fifteen and nine. Abby was close to a triple-double with an additional seven steals. The best part of Abby's game was her free-throws where she has been struggling, but she focused on making them and did. Itzel Castro came off the bench to give us a spark and a little excitement on defense with four steals of her own.
