On Tuesday, May 18, the Manson Lady traveled to Waterville to try to extend their season into district play. They took on Soap Lake in the first game, winning 16-12. Coach Huddleston and Beazley were pleased with their play, commenting on their composure and aggressiveness. "We played as a team tonight, backing up Roni on the mound and scoring in every inning but one." Our seniors Roni Vanderholm and Geovanna Valle had a stellar showing at the plate hitting 2/2 and 2/4 respectfully. Our nine hits as a team and aggressive base running really made the difference.
The second game of the night pitted us against a very evenly matched Bridgeport team. Senior Roni Vanderholm drove in five runs while Geovanna Valle followed suit with one RBI. The girls played loose and held Bridgeport to only two hits. Vanderholm stepped up her play striking out 14 on the night. Newcomers Rocio Mora, Sierra Miller and Sulaima Lopez contributed hits to the team also. The Lady Trojans came out on top 8-2 earning a 4th place seat in the district tournament.
Manson-16 runs, 9 hits, 6 errors
Soap Lake-12 runs, 7 hits, 3 errors
Manson-8 runs, 5 hits, 6 errors
Bridgeport-2 runs, 2 hits, 4 errors
Thursday's District contest found us in Kittitas ready to take on the Coyotes for a trip to the State Tournament. Despite the wind and rain, the team made a valiant effort but fell short, dropping the game 0-11. Roni Vanderholm had another good showing at the plate hitting 2/2, while Amanda Buck went 1/2 on the day.
Going into district playoffs the team demonstrated great enthusiasm with their support for each other and positive attitudes. Our two senior captains Roni Vanderholm and Geovanna Valle were a great duo in their rolls as pitcher/catcher, and by the end of the season showed outstanding leadership, motivating their teammates. Though our seniors will be missed, we look forward to continuing to build the fastpitch program at Manson High School.
