MANSON 7 - LIBERTY BELL 2
What a game this was, for the first time since 2003 the Manson Trojans won a playoff baseball game; and for the first time since 2004 the Manson Trojans will be playing at the district tournament.
We got things going early with Schuyler Neff leading off the game with a line-drive up the middle. He stole second base and moved to third on a single by Cameron Peters. Nathan Coggins got the first RBI of the day when he stepped up with one out in the first and ripped a ball to short to score Neff. Our next runs came in the third inning when Johnny Jones led off the inning with a hard earned walk. Schuyler followed with a well hit ball off the leftfield fence. Both Jones and Neff scored on Cole Matthiesen’s single later in the inning. Cole later scored along with Stellan Giffin on a single by Devon Griffith. Luckily for us all we needed was those seven runs. The best part about today’s game was that we hit the ball all day long and hit it hard. We even had some well hit balls by Jones and Curtis McClellan that didn’t drop and were caught instead. The biggest thing we need to work on after this game is battling at the plate with two outs, we left way too many runners on base today. Cole Matthiesen had another stellar performance on the mound getting a complete game win. Matthiesen had twelve strikeouts in the game. Nathan Coggins had a great game behind the plate today, he didn’t drop a single third strike and not one runner took that plate on a passed ball or wild pitch. We also got a good defensive performance from two players playing out of position, McClellan and Kent Ustanik did a great job of playing spots they had both only played once before in games.

Manson Boys Soccer 1 – Brewster 2
Coach Thomas reports:
5/11/10
Manson Boys hosted the Brewster soccer team in a district play-off. Manson lost a close game 2 – 1. Olegario Orozco scored 1 minute into the game on a free kick. Brewster scored just before half to tie the game. In the second half Manson played into a strong wind. Brewster scored the go-ahead goal 7 minutes into the second half. Manson pressed hard to the end and had several chances but failed to score.
Manson plays next on Saturday, May 15th at 1:00 pm at the Apple Bowl in Wenatchee.
The winner of that game goes on to state as a 3rd seed and the loser is done for the season.
