Manson track participated in the Liberty Bell Invitational on Friday, May 7. This was our final tune up before our league meet next week. At this time of the year we are hoping to see improvements to indicate we are peaking at the right time.
The meet got off to a funky start. In the first event, our girl's 4x200 relay team was disqualified for leaving the exchange zone, which was a shame because they ran more than 5 seconds faster than our previous best.
The next event was the girl's 3200 and Cheyanne McFadden was on her way to personal best of ever 30 seconds but the officials miscounted her laps and sent her off one lap early so she was disqualified. This is the second time this has happened to a runner of ours this year, so the coach (me!) needs to do a better job of keeping track of things for the girls. The next event was the boy's 100m and Bailey Stevens was disqualified for a false start! 3 events and 3 disqualifications! I wasn't sure we were going to get a race in.
After the sketchy start things went well. Here are some of the highlights by athletes:
1. Juan Chavolla knocked off 10 seconds in the 1600 and 37 seconds off in the 3200 for new prs. Juan has shown fantastic improvement over the last month.
2. Mykah Hall got a 20 foot pr in the discus.
3. Ty Harding got prs in the 100 and 200.
4. Jesse Russell got a 1 second pr in the 1600 and an impressive 1 minute 17 second pr in the 3200.
5. Casey Sorenson picked up prs in the discus, shot put, and triple jump.
6. Bailey Stevens got a pr in the 200, atoning for his false start in the 100.
7. Paul Toolson hit the trifecta with prs in the triple jump, 100, and a huge 8 second pr in the 400.
8. Marcus Vanderholm was our lone point scorer on the boys team by placing 4th in the 1600.
As good as the boys were, the girls may have been even better.
1. Itzel Castro got a pr in both the 200 and 400. Her 400 effort placed 7th overall.
2. Eva Escoto improved on her season's best in the 1600 by over 26 seconds. This netted her a 7th place finish overall.
3. Jackie Guillen got a nice pr in the 100m.
4. Ofelia Rodriguez keeps getting prs with another 2 in both the 100 and 200. Her 100 meters was good for 4th place overall.
Also participating were Kyla Chavolla, Adriana Guzman, Thalia Lepley, Cheyanne McFadden, and Lia Verduzco.
“I couldn't be prouder of the kids as their hard work is showing every week in their performances.” Coach Kurt Toolson.
