GAME #1: MANSON 9 - WATERVILLE 23
Well this game didn’t start well for us at what so ever, we gave up the eight runs in the first on three hits, three errors and six free passes. Waterville came out swinging and it really paid off for them, they proved to be exactly what I had thought they were; they are the best hitting team we have seen this year. The frustrating thing is that we had actually had just as many hits as they had, but they had four less errors in the field and their pitchers gave up fewer free passes than we did. All of their batters got up to the plate and did a great job of fouling off the curve ball and waiting for the fast ball. Nathan Coggins had four hits in the game, Cole Matthiesen got two hits of his own and Stellan Giffin smacked two hits the other way as he picked up the hit-and-run sign. Sophomore Cameron Peters made a couple of really nice plays a shortstop in this first game, as this season has progressed he has really been a great addition to this team with both his play and attitude. This loss was a tough one because coming into this game we knew that we controlled our own destiny. With a sweep today we could get third place for sure, but after losing this one we knew we had a lot of pressure in winning the second game to secure a playoff spot.

GAME #2: MANSON 2 –WATERVILLE 5
We had one of our better starts to this game, but we just didn’t ever capitalize on things. In practice we worked on first-third situations this week and in the first inning we had exactly what we had worked, but we didn’t execute it and instead got a runner picked off. This seemed to be our fate today as we just didn’t execute very well and even had two runners thrown out, our base-running really hurt us in this game. Even though things didn’t go our way much in this game the kids hung in there and kept their cool, sometimes the calls just don’t go your way in baseball it’s a funny game that way. There were eight bang-bang calls in this second game and unfortunately not one went our way. That’s just how this game works, Waterville made plays and we didn’t always make them we really needed them like they did. Nathan Coggins scorched the ball in the first game, but was unable to play at his best in the second game because of rolling his ankle while catching early in the third inning. Schuyler Neff got us started in the first inning with a very well hit single up the middle and later scored on a single by Cameron Peters. We had first and third with no outs when Cole Matthiesen was picked off stealing second, and that one run was all we got in the first after Jordan Pittman ripped a ball to center field that was caught. Matthiesen scored our other run after hitting a single and stealing both second and third. He should have scored on another well hit and caught ball to center Pittman, but luckily Curtis McClellan came up next and ripped a single to left to score our second run. Mclellen and Matthiesen each finished the game with two hits. Matthiesen also finished with seventeen strikeouts on the mound; he really pitched a good game. Errors and hit batters ultimately hurt him though. Now we play the waiting game, we need to Oroville to take at least one game from Liberty Bell for us to make the playoffs. If Oroville wins one game we would have a district play-in game next week with Liberty Bell, if Oroville wins two games we are in districts as the number four seed; but if Liberty Bell Sweeps Oroville we are done. Even if Oroville doesn’t help us out we have had great season, improving from zero wins the past two seasons to eight wins this season.
