Manson Track at Bridgeport Invitational
Coach Kurt Toolson reports:
4.29.10
On Tuesday, April 28, the Manson track team participated in the Bridgeport Invitational. There were 14 teams and 350 athletes there. The meet was a rousing success as every member of the team than ran got a personal best in one event or another.
We were worried the meet would be cancelled. At the start of the girl's 3200 (first event) a heavy rain squall moved through the area dumping rain and bringing 30-40 mph winds. It broke the team tent! Kyla Chavolla and Eva Escoto braved the conditions and ran admirably. I was very proud of them for gutting it out as the rest of the team ran for cover in the Bridgeport gym.
Fortunately, the bad weather lasted for only 15 minutes or so.
Some of the other highlights:
Ofelia Rodriguez won the girl's 100m and ran a personal best 200m as well as a strong 69 second opening leg to the 4x400 relay.
Jesse Russell and Paul Toolson ran prs in the 1600. Paul also got a pr in the 200m.
Cheyanne McFadden topped her personal best in the 800 by 7 seconds.
Itzel Castro ran her pr in the 200 by over a second as well as anchoring our 4x400 relay team with a 67 second split.
Ty Harding and Bailey Stevens both ran the 200 in 26.4, topping their season's best efforts.
Marcus Vanderholm placed 3rd in the 1600 and 2nd in the 3200. More significantly, he beat is 3200 pr by a whopping 43 seconds!
Juan Chavolla ran an outstanding 3200 as well, beating his pr by over 30 seconds.
Thalia Lepley got her pr in the 400 by 2 seconds.
On the field event side, Casey Sorenson beat his personal bests in both the javelin and discus.
Adiriana Guzman topped 11 feet in the long jump for the first time.
Lastly, the girl's 4x400 relay team ran a 4:47 which beat their previous best time by 17 seconds! The team consisted of Ofelia Rodriguez, Eva Escoto, Adriana Guzman, and Itzel Castro. This is also a new school record! We plan on topping this as the season progresses, so it is not official yet.
Our next meet is May 7 at Liberty Bell. Our final tune up before league meet.
