It was a lose and go home kind of day for softball teams trying to qualify for the State Softball Tournament.
Chelan came out strong in their first game against the Okanogan Bulldogs scoring a quick 13-1 5-inning win over Okanogan.
Danielle Smythe was on top of her game, allowing only two hits and one unearned run while going the distance for the Goats. The two hits came from Okanogan’s Schreckengost and Miller who scored the Bulldogs only run.
Offensively, Amanda Ihlanfeldt led the way at the plate hitting 4-4 with an RBI. Chelsea Gocke continue to swing the bat effectively and went 2-2 with a double and 2 RBIs. Other offensive stars were Lindsey Fox, 2-3; Taylor McClellan, 2-4 with 2 doubles; and Hailey Habich, 2-3 with 2 RBIs.
Madison Dietrich got her first varsity hit which resulted in an RBI.
After soundly defeating Okanogan, Chelan had to face the Omak Pioneers who lost in the earlier championship game to Cascade. The game between Chelan and Omak determined the second and final spot to the state tournament.
Chelan faced an intense and determined Omak team and found themselves down 4-0 after only 2 innings. The Lady Goats were unable to recover from Omak’s momentum and ended up losing their final game of the season 13-1.
“Errors were the problem,” reported Assistant Coach Erick Gocke. The Goats committed five in this final game after only committing one in the first game.
Offensively, the Lady Goats were led by Chelsea Gocke who went 2-3 at the plate with Taylor McClellan and Liz Garcia both going 1-2.
For Omak, Ables Marchand and Ramos combined for 9-15 at the plate with 6 RBIs and 4 extra base hits.
The Lady Goats ended up finishing in third place in the District playoffs. It was the final high school game for seniors Chelsea Gocke, Taylor McClellan, Amanda Ihlanfeldt, Elizabeth Garcia and Krissa Gavin-Shively.
“The coaching staff would like the thank all the supporters who came out and watched the ladies play this year and would also like give a very special thank you to all the businesses and people who donated generously to the program so that we could get new uniforms and bat bags for the girls.”
