By Richard Uhlhorn (As reported by Assistant Coach Erick Gocke
Chelan’s Lady Goat fast pitch softball team needs to win its remaining games if they expect to make it into the WIAAState 1A Softball Championships. On Saturday, May 15, the Lady Goats beat Cashmere 5-1 and then lost the second game 5-0 to the League Champion Lady Kodiaks from Cascade. “Coach Becker likes the Goats chances at reaching the State Playoffs. It is win or go home from here on out and I think that the way we are playing, we can make a return trip to State,” reported Gocke.
In game one against the Cashmere Bulldogs, Danielle Smythe produced a dominating performance from the mound in this first round loser out game at Rich Rice Field in Dryden. “Dani pitched awesome in this game,” said Coach Anne Becker. “We put the ball in her hands today and she pitched her best game of the year by far by giving up just 4 hits and 1 earned run in the complete game win.”
Offensively, Hailey Habich led the Goats in this game going 3-4 at the plate with a double. Lindsey Fox and Taylor McClellan also had great games at the plate going 1-2 with 3 runs and 2 stolen bases for Fox and 3 RBIs for McClellan.
Defensively, the Lady Goats played one of its best games of the year with only one error. The win put Chelan into the semi-final match-up against the League Champion Cascade.
