Chelan Lady Goats win again

Phoenix, AZ-The Chelan Lady Goats struck early and often on their way to a 71-27 win over the Hayden Lobos of Hayden, Arizona today at the Cactus Jam tournament.

Led by Kelli Bowers' 14 points, all twelve players scored in the game. Defense created early turnovers that led to easy transition baskets as the Lady Goats built a 40-12 lead at halftime.

Jaicee Harris chipped in 12 points, followed by Houston Robison with 9 and Cari Williams with 8. Clancy Courtney, Mandy Robison, and Danielle Smythe scored their first career varsity points in the game. Chelan wraps up the round-robin tournament on Wednesday at 1:15 pm PST against the Chestermere Lady Lakers from Calgary, Alberta. A win would clinch the tournament championship for Chelan.

Tuesday morning began with a guided tour of the Arizona State University campus. ASU is home to nearly 70,000 students, making it the largest university in the United States. Walking around in T-shirts and shorts amid orange trees and bright sunshine the last week in December definitely was a memorable experience for us. Our trip will conclude Wednesday night with a group event at the Phoenix Suns - Boston Celtics NBA game following our own game.

On behalf of the Lady Goats, I would like to take a moment to thank our many supporters who helped us make this trip. From the many donations, to the words of encouragement, to all of those who helped us organize and carry out the many fundraisers that made this possible, I think I speak for all the players when I say that this trip is one we will never forget.

You all can be proud of the way these young ladies have carried themselves and represented our school and town. We've run into several friends and acquaintances who know of Chelan for various reasons and they leave this team with positive impressions. Looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
