The Chelan Soccer Team hosted Wahluke in a loser out State Playoff game on Tuesday evening, May 19, on the Chelan football field. Wahluke was the No. 3 seed out of their district while Chelan was the No. 2 seed out of the CTL.
Chelan ended up losing this exciting game that went almost the entire distance before the first goal was scored by Wahluke with only left in the second period. The goal came after both teams made numerous attempts on goal to the delight of the soccer fans from both communities cheering the teams on.
Wahluke became very aggressive in the final minutes scoring its second goal with 610 remaining to play giving Chelan a difficult job to tie this game up, but the Goats responded aggressively after that second goal and brought the ball downfield and Jose Garcia scored Chelan's first goal with only 5:45 remaining to play.
With the score now at 2-1 in favor of Wahluke, they were able to score one more time on a lucky, lucky side shot on goal that bounced off a goal post into the goal despite the heroic effort of goalie Tyler Clark.
Chelan gallantly tried to come back, but scocer is a tough game in which to score. Wahluke's goalie was relentless in keeping the ball out of its goal.
So, Chelan ended its great season and 11 seniors will graduate leaving the program with a number of young juniors, who will be led by Samuel Torres next year. The majority of returning players will be this year's crop of sophomores.
The team will miss the excellent leadership of Jose Garcia, Julio Juarez, Jose Valera, Rhett Beauregard, Garrett Oatey, Chein Zavala, Tucker Cool, Daniel Galvan, Tyler Clark, and Jamie Guerrero.
