"It was a great match," stated Coach Randy Gleasman. "I'm very happy with how they wrestled."
The Chelan Goat wrestling team had to give up a full 24 points in forfeits to the deep Cashmere Bulldog team, but individually, the team wrestled very well against a perennial powerhouse.
Eddie Bush (119 lbs.) easily defeated Cashmere's Joe Clark by a fall with 1:29 remaining in the first period. He scored on a takedown and then put Clark into a near fall situation which ended with the pin.
The most exciting match for Coach Randy Gleasman and the wrestling fans had to be Mariano Silva's (125 lbs.) 7-5 overtime decision against Cashmere's Jeremy Burns. The two seniors wrestled to a 5-5 tie in regulation. Silva went on to score first with a takedown in OT. "Hey, how exciting is that," said Gleasman. "He even got the crowd into it."
Evan Nickell (130 lbs.) went down to a tough Brent Evans in a 5-2 decision after scoring the first takedown. That's all Evans allowed him to score despite Nickell's efforts to gain the upper hand.
Tyson McGuffin (135 lbs.) scored a sweet fall in the first period over Cashmere's Galen Cockrum with 1:12 remaining. It took Maxx Simonet (140 lbs.) a lot longer to pin Tyler Thibault. Simonet jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first period and finally scored the fall with 37.2 seconds remaining in the second period.

Nick Brown (145 lbs.) took on Brandon Kilgore in the 145 pound match and ended up pinned in the first round.
Lukas Wolff (152 lbs.) continues to dominate his weight class. He took on Pedro Sandoval who refused to be pinned, but was able to score only one point in a match that Wolff's only problem was scoring a fall. It ended up with Wolff getting a 11-1 major decision.
Lukas Wolff on his way to another win over an opponent. This time it's Cashmere's Pedro Sandoval. Wolff scored a 11-1 major decison.
Tate Collins (160 lbs.) took a fall with 1:23 remaining in the second period. "I don't understand it," said Assistant Coach Randy McGuffin. "He lost to Parkins (Levi Parkins) by only one point earlier this year." Collins, who has missed some of the season with an injury, is quite capable of getting back into wrestling shape by district time.
Danny Sherer (145 lbs.) was relegated to a JV match against Brandon Kilgore. It was a much more interesting match than Browns earlier match with this Cashmere junior. Sherer scored first with a takedown, but by the end of the first period, Kilgore battled back with an escape and reversal to tie the match at 2-all. The two wrestlers battled to a 6-6 tie before Sherer scored another takedown to gain the advantage in the third round before he found himself getting caught and pinned late in the match. "Hey, it's his first year," said Gleasman, about his quick senior. "He's going to make mistakes."
"Win or lose, they all worked hard and that's all I can ask of them," said Gleasman. "They are peaking at the right moment."
Chelan has only one more league match before Districts are held in Cashmere. They will travel to Omak on Thursday, January 27, to take on the Pioneers.
